"Writing is the only profession where no one considers
you ridiculous if you earn no money."

--Jules Renard

Andy O'Hara is a veteran and retired police officer who spent much of his childhood and police career in the Sacramento Valley.

Andy dabbled for a bit with small town journalism, with his writing appearing in the Sacramento Bee, Gold River News and Spectrum Magazine.  He was both full-time reporter and assistant editor for the City Times of Citrus Heights.  His short stories, articles and poetry have appeared in various on-line literary magazines.

Forced from his 24-year police career by severe post traumatic stress disorder, Andy publishes the website, Badge of Life, offering new cutting edge ideas for law enforcement agencies to address the problems of police suicide and mental health.  His trauma and work were featured in Sacramento Magazine in October, 2007.

His book, The Swan, Tales of the Sacramento Valley, was first published in 2004 and revised in 2007.  A work of fiction, he takes the reader on a tour of the valley and explores its people, its stories, its tragedies.  Not surprisingly, he tells the story of a highway patrolman who sits in desperation and contemplates suicide.

Under the pseudonym, "Jerry Jimston," Andy O'Hara has published "The Jimston Journal, A Publication for the Arts," a free on-line literary journal that has been a conduit for a lot of great writers and photographers from around the world.

Neighbors are awakened frequently to bitter arguments between O'Hara and Jimston as to which is the pseudonym.  Some doubt remains.
